"them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon"
2 Chronicles 36:20 The captivity of the Hebrews came when the king of Babylon destroyed Jerusalem in 586 B.C.
2 Chronicles 36:17-20
17 - Therefore he brought upon them the
king of the Chaldees, who slew their young men with the sword in the
house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion upon young man or
maiden, old man, or him that stooped for age: he gave [them] all into
his hand.
18 - And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small, and the
treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king, and
of his princes; all [these] he brought to Babylon.
19 - And they burnt the house of God, and brake down the wall of
Jerusalem, and burnt all the palaces thereof with fire, and destroyed
all the goodly vessels thereof.
20 - And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon
Jeremiah 25:8-13
8 - Therefore thus saith the LORD of
hosts; Because ye have not heard my words,
9 - Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith
the LORD, and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will
bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and
against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them,
and make them an astonishment, and an hissing, and perpetual
desolations.
10 - Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth, and the voice of
gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the
sound of the millstones, and the light of the candle.
11 - And this whole land shall be a desolation, [and] an astonishment;
and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.
12 - And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished,
[that] I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the
LORD, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make
it perpetual desolations.
13 - And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have
pronounced against it, [even] all that is written in this book, which
Jeremiah hath prophesied against all the nations.
Jeremiah 5:19
19 - And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these [things] unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land [that is] not yours.
